Our Legacy

Many lives were touched by the Citizenship classes at the Progressive Club. Previously disenfranchised citizens were able to pass the literacy test required at that time to register to vote.

The Co-op Store and bus transportation into Charleston gave Johns Islanders more control of their economic circumstances and created the means for self-determination.

The beneficiaries of the Progressive Club programs and their children and grandchildren have achieved great success in the Charleston area and beyond.
